INTRODUCTION

Why S2?

As all you will already know, Bangladesh is a country located in the Asian continent, in zone 22 of the WAZ. At first sight it may not seem an attractive destination to organize a Dxpedition, or at least not as attractive as a distant country in Oceania or a lost island could be?

However, nothing could be farther from reality. At the moment this DXCC entity is situated in place #42 according to the 2005 Most Wanted DXCC Countries Survey of The DX Magazine (no other list has been published with new data, at least known by this team) (#62 in 2004 and 2003). And probably at the moment, due to the recent operations that have taken place in entities that were in the first places of the more wanted list, Bangladesh is sure to have climbed positions.

In the past few years, activity from this entity has been very scarce (some IOTA operations and some spare local activities), which makes as believe that this is very interesting for the DX comunity to organize the operation.

Learning about the country

Bangladesh came into existence in 1971 when Bengali East Pakistan seceded from its union with West Pakistan. About a third of this extremely poor country annually floods during the monsoon rainy season, hampering economic development.

It is mostly surrounded by Indian Territory except for small strip in the southeast by Myanmar and south by Bay of Bengal. Most if this area is relatively flat lying. The only significant upland are in the northeast and southeast of the country. Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate marked by sweltering temperatures and high humidity.

The official name of the country is: The People's Republic of Bangladesh
